Expect May Miracles

Pope Francis has sent out a call to the faithful to pray the daily Rosary during the month of May, traditionally the ‘Month of Mary’, and has gifted us with two new prayers to ask heaven’s intercession to bring about an end to the coronavirus pandemic.

For the next 31 days, Catholic Power House will be posting one or other of the two new prayers by Pope Francis, together with a different image of the Madonna each day, and we put out a challenge to others to do the same. Or you are free to use ours.

We start on Day 1 with Caravaggio’s ‘Madonna di Loreto’ because it is at Loreto that we find the house where the Archangel Gabriel announced to a humble handmaiden that she would be the Mother of God. Miraculously transported from Nazareth by angels, the little dwelling is the site of the Incarnation; God become man; Emmanuel – God with us; the Word made flesh. It’s where the Son of God, come down from heaven, landed, finding His dwelling in the womb of the of the Virgin Mary, making her the Theotokos – God-bearer.

The House of Loreto has been a place of devotion since the 13th century where innumerable miracles have been recorded. It is where the Life of Christ begins; it is where the Rosary begins (The First Mystery, the Annunciation); it is therefore proper to begin here, with Mary, as we come on bended knee to adore her Son, and ask that she intercede to Him on our behalf. May is the Month of Mary. May is also the Month of Miracles. Let us pray in expectation.
